Role Overview

 

Changi Airport is seeking dedicated and committed individuals to join our operations team as Baggage Handling Officers. This role is integral to the airport’s daily operations, focusing on the efficient and safe handling of passenger baggage. Baggage Handling Officers ensure that all baggage is processed accurately, delivered on time, and handled in accordance with airport standards and safety regulations.

 

This position requires individuals who are disciplined, adaptable, and able to perform under pressure. You will work closely with colleagues and other airport departments to ensure seamless operations in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

 

Contract and Working Hours

 

This position is offered on a 1-year contract basis, with the potential for renewal or conversion to a permanent role based on performance and operational needs.

 

Work schedule follows a 2-day on, 2-day off cycle, with two main shifts:

 

Day Shift: 08:30 AM – 08:30 PM

 

Night Shift: 08:30 PM – 08:30 AM

 

Candidates must be flexible and willing to work both day and night shifts, including weekends and public holidays, as airport operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

 

Adherence to shift schedules, punctuality, and reliability are essential.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Baggage Handling Officers are responsible for ensuring that all baggage handling processes are carried out efficiently, safely, and in line with established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Responsibilities include:

 

Operational Efficiency:

 

Execute seasonal operational schedules and maintain real-time updates in operational databases.

 

Ensure baggage handling processes comply with established standards and KPIs.

 

Manage the delivery and transfer of baggage with accuracy and timeliness.

 

Reporting and Communication:

 

Prepare operational reports, including Situation Reports (Sitrep), for internal and external stakeholders.

 

Provide updates on baggage status and flight information to ensure accurate communication across departments.

 

Coordinate with the Baggage Technical Control Room regarding real-time operational changes or challenges.

 

Problem-Solving and Coordination:

 

Resolve scheduling conflicts and operational disruptions promptly to minimize delays.

 

Facilitate joint inspections with stakeholders, including Airside Support Officers and senior personnel.

 

Coordinate with various parties, particularly for VIP flights and special baggage handling cases.

 

Safety and Compliance:

 

Handle incidents occurring on-site and conduct investigations according to operational protocols.

 

Ensure all baggage handling activities are conducted in compliance with airport safety regulations.

 

Maintain awareness of potential risks and take proactive measures to prevent accidents or errors.

 

Teamwork and Collaboration:

 

Work closely with colleagues and other departments to ensure seamless airport operations.

 

Support training and mentoring of junior team members when required.

 

Contribute to a collaborative and professional work environment.

 

Requirements & Qualifications

 

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

 

Minimum qualification: Higher Nitec or equivalent.

 

Prior experience in airport or airline operations is advantageous; a minimum of 2 years’ experience is recommended.

 

Willingness to work on-site in Changi Airport’s baggage handling area.

 

Possession of a Class 3 Driving License is preferred for operating airport vehicles such as baggage trucks.

 

Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

 

Strong teamwork, communication skills, and the ability to perform under pressure.

 

High level of discipline, reliability, and commitment to operational excellence.
